Your entitlements

As a student, you are entitled to certain general benefits as well as health and medical welfare schemes. These ensure you have access to healthcare facilities of the University and other facilities on the campus.


Each student is issued an IDENTITY card that remains valid for the regular duration of the course.You can use this ID card to avail of Medicare facilities for the regular duration of the course.

The Identity card functions as

  • Photo ID card
  • Access Control card
  • ATM & Debit card

The Identity card also enables

  • Fee, Library and Cafeteria payments.
  • Convenience of Anywhere and Anytime Banking.

If you need to continue studies beyond the specified period for the program, you need to renew the ID card by paying the required ID/Medicare fee.


If you lose your ID card, please bring it to the notice of the Admissions Office immediately in writing, along with the copy of the police complaint.You will be issued a duplicate/replacement ID card on payment of Rs 500.


As a student, you are eligible for the Medicare Scheme for the duration of your course. Your ID card can be used to access the University hospital facilities, and other Medicare benefits, right from the very first day of your course.If you fail to renew your ID card upon expiry, Medicare facilities will cease to be available to you.Your request for renewal of the card will be approved after collecting the renewal fee for the default period.

Please note, however, the Medicare facilities will be available to you again, only after one month from the date of payment of renewal fee.Medical interns need to renew their cards before joining for internship by paying a Medicare Fee.


We have a special provision to give Medicare cover to the spouse and unmarried dependent children of a postgraduate student.

  • The Medicare premium for the entire period is payable in advance at the time of admission itself. If a student gets married and has a baby, the premium needs to be paid within one month from the date of marriage/child birth.
  • Application for granting family cover will not be entertained any time after admission or after the expiry of one month from the date of marriage or child birth, whichever is later. Subsequent enrolment may be approved at the sole discretion of the University. In such cases, coverage will begin after one month from the date of payment.



  • General hospitalisation (including drugs, blood excluding diet) in special ward (Plan A).
  • Outpatient benefits (excluding drugs, materials etc.)


  • General hospitalisation (including drugs, blood excluding diet) in semi-special ward (Plan B).
  • Outpatient benefits (excluding drugs, materials etc.)

If a student is admitted to higher type of ward than eligible as per Medicare, he needs to pay the difference between the amount incurred and that he is eligible for.


Medicare benefits are provided at the following hospitals on the basis of your Medicare Card/Identity Card.

  • Kasturba Hospital, Manipal
  • Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi
  • Dr TMA Pai Rotary Hospital, Karkala
  • KMC Hospital, Attavar, Mangalore


  • All the DM and MCh students are given a monthly stipend of Rs 40,000 in their first, second and third years of study.
  • All MD, MS, PG Diploma, MDS students (including those joining under the service agreement scheme) are given a monthly stipend of Rs 30,000 in their first year, Rs 35,000 in second year and Rs 40,000 third years of study.
  • Allied Health interns will be paid stipend Rs 1500.
  • MBBS, BDS students are paid a monthly stipend of Rs 15,000 during the period of their internship.

Please note that the fees and refund information given above is indicative only, and Manipal University reserves the right to make changes.Any changes in the above will be informed separately.

Please note that there are two affidavits – Annexure I to be submitted by the student and Annexure II to be submitted by the parent on plain paper. Verification and attestation of oath commissioner is not required.

In addition to the above two affidavits, students should also submit a declaration on substance abuse on a plain A4 size paper. Click here for the form.

Please note: As per DCI Circular No.DE-167-2013/15038 Dental students may visit or for registering online.

Failing to comply with the above requirements will result in cancellation of admission.
